‘The Hobbit’ Begins Shooting in June

Production Weekly reports that the Guillermo del Toro-directed The Hobbit films will begin production in June and is expected to last for 14 months.

While this is great news, it appears that the prequels to The Lord of the Rings may possibly not make it to the targeted December 2011 and December 2012 release dates. MGM Studios is also still resolving its current financial situation and its partnership with New Line will be vital to the completion of the two films.

Hugo Weaving, Cate Blanchett, Andy Serkis and Ian McKellen are all set to reprise their roles in the movies.
