15 Films Up for Best Visual Effects Oscar

The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences has announced the 15 films vying for the coveted Best Visual Effects trophy via their press release.

  • “Angels & Demons”
  • “Avatar”
  • “Coraline”
  • “Disney’s A Christmas Carol”
  • “District 9”
  • “G-Force”
  • “G.I. Joe: The Rise of Cobra”
  • “Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince”
  • “Sherlock Holmes”
  • “Star Trek”
  • “Terminator Salvation”
  • “Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen”
  • “2012”
  • “Watchmen”
  • “Where the Wild Things Are”

Personally, I’m looking at Avatar and Star Trek as locks with Where the Wild Things Are as a potential dark horse nominee (of course the Academy may recognize its Art Direction and Makeup more). Of course we can’t count out District 9, 2012 as well as Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen.
