Marvel Musings

With Iron Man 2 ready to launch in May of 2010, it appears that Marvel is moving full steam ahead with their Avengers flick in 2012 according to this source.

Already we have in development two high profile summer tentpoles namely Thor, from British director/actor Kenneth Branagh, and The First Avenger: Captain America, from Jurassic Park 3 director Joe Johnston, that are set to be unleashed in May and July of 2011 respectively.

Johnston describes the WWII setting of Captain America to have the feel of Steven Spielberg’s Raiders of the Lost Ark.

With relatively unknown Chris Hemsworth, on the other hand, donning the boots of the famous Thunder God Thor, he joins Tom Hiddleston (set to play the villain Loki), as well as his love interest Jane Foster played by none other than the always-gorgeous Natalie Portman.

Hemsworth is most notable for his portrayal of James T. Kirk’s father in the J.J. Abrams Star Trek reboot earlier this year.

Also just announced today, Stellan Skarsgard (Pirates of the Caribbean, Angels & Demons, King Arthur) will also join the ensemble cast but it has not yet been revealed as of yet as to which character he will play.
